Periods and Pain : Navigating life with Dysmenorrhea
The Menstrual cycle is a monthly series of changes that a women's body undergoes through to prepare for a potential pregnancy. it involves the thickening of the uterine lining, the release of an egg from the ovaries, and if the pregnancy fail to happen, the shedding of uterine lining through menstruation.

All these activities happen in 4 different phases known as
1. Menstrual phase
2. Follicular phase
3. Ovulation
4. Luteal phase.

The Cycle anywhere between 21 days to 35 days with 2 to 7 days of flow is considered as normal.

Dysmenorrhea
Dysmenorrhea refers to painful menstrual cramps that occur just before or during menstruation. this condition significantly impacts the quality of life by affecting physical, emotional and social well being.

Dysmenorrhea is caused by the over production of prostaglandins and other chemicals in the body leading to contraction of uterine and other muscles in the body. and Reproductive health issues like Fibroids, Inflammatory conditions and endometriosis may lead to painful periods

Symptoms
✓ Lower abdominal pain : Cramping pain which radiates to lower back hips and thighs
✓ Nausea and Vomiting
✓ Diarrhea or Constipation
✓ Fatigue
✓ Weakness
✓ Headaches
✓ Anxiety and depression

Lifestyle modifications:
✓ Healthy diet which includes fruits, vegetables and whole grains
✓ Hydration : drinking plenty of water reduces bloating
✓ Regular exercise
✓ Heat therapy
✓ Abdominal massage
✓ Warn baths
✓ Meditation
✓ Adequate sleep
