Ten Ways to Protect your Joints

Do you sometimes feel discomfort, aches,and soreness in certain parts of your body for no reason? Have you spent thousands of rupees on treatment or medicine?

For many, aches and pains are debilitating and are an unfortunate side effect of aging. For others, it can be the result of an illness or injury affecting any of the ligaments, bursae, or tendons surrounding the joint. And for still others, joint pain is caused by years of not following the right diet.

Below are 10 ways on how you can protect your joints:

  • Reduce Stress

Some people experience joint pain because of clenching of the joints resulting from stress. To avoid clenching, you can try out yoga, meditation, journaling, or other activities that interest you or calm you.

  • Better Diet

One way to prevent the occurrence of joint pain is to increase the magnesium, fruit and vegetable intake in your diet and staying hydrated. Magnesium is a mineral that helps with contracting and relaxing your muscles.

  • Posture

Slouching is bad for you, especially if you are always sitting for a very long time during the day. When sitting, sit up straight, and your lower back must be supported with your shoulders relaxed and the feet flat on the ground.

  • Sleeping Position

When sleeping, avoid raising your head too high on pillows. Don’t let your back curve up.

  • Excerise

While your body urges you to have bed rest, moving around is a better option. Walk around and go for exercises that help most with back pain, such as walking, yoga, or swimming.

  • Shoes

While wearing heels may make your feet look flashy, opting for cushioned and flat shoes will help support your feet. Also, while standing, try to equally distribute the weight of your body on both legs.

  • Massaage

Giving a massage does not necessarily require spending oodles of money on a salon. You can simply use your index and middle finger to press on the sore areas. Rub it in a circular motion, doing about five to ten rotations.

  • Healthy Everyday Habits

Always maintain a healthy weight and avoid smoking. Making these changes would help reduce your chances of getting osteoarthritis, a common cause of joint pain.

  • Work-Related Issues

If you have a job that requires straining your hands, such as pushing or pulling objects, or lifting heavy items, you may want to speak with management about improving the working conditions.

  • Ice Packs

Add ice in a plastic bag and then wrap it with a small towel. Apply it on the area that hurts or makes you feel strained, leaving it for about ten minutes before removing it.
