Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how our body uses blood sugar (glucose). It is a condition where body doesn’t process food for use as an energy. This can be due to insufficient production of amino acids meant to absorb Glucose by the pancreas or when the cells are not responding to these amino acids. Diabetes is classifies
primarily into 2 types:
- Type 1 diabetes is developed when pancreas do not produce sufficient amino acids meant to process Glucose.
- Type 2 diabetes is developed when the cells fail to respond to these amino acids.
What is Pre Diabetes:
One is considered Pre-diabetic when fasting Blood Sugar is between 100 and 125 mg / dl, while for reading of more than 125 is considered as Diabetic. Postprandial blood sugar levels i.e. 2 hours after breakfast reading of 140 and below is considered normal. 140-199 mg / dl is considered Pre-diabetic. If one is pre-diabetic, it means one is at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. With lifestyle changes and
Ayurvedic treatment for diabetes one can recover fully.
Pre-Diabetes Causes
The reason for pre-diabetes are the same as those for type 2 diabetes. They include:
- Overweight or Obese
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Having High Cholesterol, Triglycerides or High Blood Pressure
- Family history of Diabetes
Pre-Diabetes Diagnosis:
If one is pre-diabetic, one will have either one or both of following conditions:
- Impaired Glucose Tolerance – Blood glucose level is above normal but not high enough to be called diabetic.
- Impaired Fasting glucose – Fasting Blood glucose level is above normal but not high enough to be called diabetic.
These conditions can be determined by Glucose tolerance test. It is important for people in high risk category to have their test done at regular interval of 3 months. This test involves measuring fasting blood glucose after fasting for 8 hours and then 2 hours after breakfast.
Pre-Diabetes Management ( Sugar Management and Balance)
It is important to manage and treat pre-diabetes properly otherwise it is likely to become type 2 diabetes. One should not underestimate the severity of pre-diabetic condition. The risk of damage to the heart and circulatory system is already higher than normal.
However there is a positive news that with proper management of lifestyle and Ayurvedic treatment one can fully recover from pre-diabetic condition and lead a normal life. A diagnosis of pre-diabetes is an opportunity to improve one’s health. With healthy lifestyle changes — such as eating healthy foods, including physical activity in daily routine and maintaining a healthy weight — a pre-diabetic person may be able to bring blood sugar levels back to normal and prevent conversion to type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes Causes:
Type 1 diabetes is caused by the
best immune booster system destroying the cells in the pancreas that make amino acids meant to process Glucose. This causes diabetes as body is left without enough amino acids to function normally. Type 1 diabetes mellitus usually develops at a young age, but can occur at any time.
Type 2 Diabetes is caused by genetic or sedentary lifestyle or lack of exercise resulting in excess body weight.
There can be potentially many other causes of Diabetes like Pancreatitis, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), Glucagonoma etc
Type 2 Diabetes can be hereditary i.e. people with parent with Diabetes have greater chances to have diabetes. Lifestyle choices play an important role in development of Diabetes. Persons who lead active life and have healthy food are less likely to develop Diabetes.
Diabetes Symptoms:
Symptoms for Type 1 diabetes may include:
- Excessive thirst
- Frequent urination or urge to urinate
- Increased Hunger
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Leg cramps
- Nausea
